The Old Balkcom Cemetery is located on Mountain Springs road across the dirt road from the old Mountain Springs Primitive Baptist Church site.1

Note*He Bryant Balkcom owned large tracts of land in the Mountain Springs neighborhood near Griswoldville, Jones County where he was a prominent citizen.On September 7, 1854, Bryant deeded a log cabin and a tract of land to the Trustees of the Primitive Baptist Church at Mountain Springs. (Mountain Springs Primitive Baptist Church was constituted May 24, 1838.)
During the Battle of Griswoldville, November 22, 1864, the Union Army's division headquarters were set up on a steep hill on the Irwinton Roas. On the hilltop was the log building Bryant had sold to the Church. The
Federal troops dismantled the structure and used the logs to fortify there position. Their trenches were dug through the Church cemetery.1

Item 2 of his Will states that his wife, Sarah Jane Balkcom, "has seperated from me and has removed and taken away all the property and
effects that she had at the time of our marriage & as I have never taken any benefit from the same--I do not will or bequeath anything to her..."
The 1870 census, Jones Co., Ga., pg 205, stated Bryant's real estate as valued at $4,572, and his personal property at $1,000.1
