Note*He It is a family tradition that soon after the raising of the siege of Londenderry, Ireland, which occurred in 1689, 3 brothers, James, Joseph and David Cloyd, left Ireland, came to America, and settled in Chester County, Pennsylvania, where it seems, many of the Protestant-Irish and Scotch-Irish of that day settled;many of them remaining there to bring up families of useful citizens, and manyothers removing thence in after years to the "Valley of Virginia", whose descendants, as Christians and patriots, have given tone to that beautiful and prosperous section of the mother of States of this great Republic.

One of these three immigrants, James Cloyd, born about 1680, was at the siege of Derry when only nine years of age. He remained in Chester County, Pennsylvania, during his life and died there in 1769. Some of his descendents still reside in Chester and Montgomery Counties, Pennsylvania.

It is said to have been in the Siege of Derrywhen nine years old and would often lecture the young folks, his grandchildren, on wastefulness and tell them of the privations endured by the besieged in 1689. Nothing definite is known about him, but he is supposed to have been the father of 6 children.
